As Tennessee hemp farmers prepare for the 2020 planting season, they’ll have new federal regulations to comply with, including strict THC testing protocols some industry advocates have criticized as heavily influenced by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Michigan celebrates first legal cannabis purchases

Despite a frigid, rainy morning, three Michigan cannabis stores were open for the state’s first legal adult-use sales beginning at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

All three were in Ann Arbor, a hot spot for dispensaries in the state, and also the city where the annual Hash Bash is held. 

At Exclusive Brands an estimated 2,000 people waited in a line that circled around the block and into nearby parking lots, even two hours after opening.

How the House Judiciary Committee decided which marijuana bill to pass

One bill had bipartisan support in both houses of Congress and a hint from President Donald Trump that he would sign it. The other has only Democratic sponsors and little chance of passing a Republican-controlled Senate.

The race is on for recreational marijuana licenses in Maine

The state will start accepting marijuana business licenses this month, but in some Maine communities that are welcoming the new industry, the race to be first in market has already begun. In a few it’s almost over, and in others the market is already closed, at least for now.

The Maine Office of Marijuana Policy will publish applications for state provisional licenses to grow adult-use cannabis, sell it and manufacture products made from it to its website Thursday, kicking off a monthslong state review of those vying to become pioneers in Maine’s recreational market.

Health Minister Pushes for Farmers to Grow Cannabis in Thailand

Thailand’s Public Health Minister has proposed farmers be allowed to grow cannabis plants under a joint scheme with the state.

Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also deputy prime minister, said he has signed a draft regulation on allowing farmers to grow cannabis. The regulation will be examined by the Council of State and then submitted to the cabinet for consideration.

Hemp Poised to Become 4th Major Crop in US, Survey Shows

A top line finding, based on the data from the survey and on research of the overall market, once fully realized, the hemp industry is poised to become the fourth major crop and a foundation to agriculture in the United States.

"This, in itself, shows not only the value of the industry, but the significance of the legalization of hemp," Whitney said.
