USDA undercuts Washington hemp testing policy

The USDA's proposed hemp rules would toss aside a testing policy that advocates hoped would finally make Washington a top hemp-producing state.

The USDA says the testing protocol it recently outlined would best measure the level of the intoxicating chemical THC in harvested hemp plants. The procedures, however, differ from ones Washington planned to implement next year to keep hemp from testing "hot."

The cannabis industry has been growing significantly in recent years as legalization has progressed in many states, with 11 having passed legislation for recreational use and more states likely following suit. In addition, the farm bill was passed nearly a year ago which allowed cannabidiol (CBD) to be permitted federally so long as it was derived from hemp.

2 more medical marijuana dispensaries in Chicago approved to sell recreational pot

State officials announced Wednesday that three more medical marijuana dispensaries — two of which are in Chicago — will be allowed to sell recreation weed in Illinois when sales begin next year.

Dispensary 33, 5001 N. Clark St. in Ravenswood, and Maribis of Chicago, 4570 S. Archer Ave. in Brighton Park, will be permitted to sell adult-use marijuana starting Jan. 1, 2020, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation said in a statement.

Ontario is giving cannabis retailers an online sales entry point with click-and-collect plan

Ontario will allow private cannabis retailers to sell their products online or by phone for in-store pickup, in a significant move that chips away at the Ontario Cannabis Store’s monopoly on online cannabis sales. 

The province’s fall economic statement is proposing amendments to the current legislation around cannabis retail in order to “ensure consumers’ preferred cannabis products are available” and “wait times reduced” at the 25 retail stores that currently operate across the province.
