The cannabis industry has been growing significantly in recent years as legalization has progressed in many states, with 11 having passed legislation for recreational use and more states likely following suit. In addition, the farm bill was passed nearly a year ago which allowed cannabidiol (CBD) to be permitted federally so long as it was derived from hemp.

Ontario is giving cannabis retailers an online sales entry point with click-and-collect plan

Ontario will allow private cannabis retailers to sell their products online or by phone for in-store pickup, in a significant move that chips away at the Ontario Cannabis Store’s monopoly on online cannabis sales.

The province’s fall economic statement is proposing amendments to the current legislation around cannabis retail in order to “ensure consumers’ preferred cannabis products are available” and “wait times reduced” at the 25 retail stores that currently operate across the province.

Limiting factor: what’s limiting your cannabis crop production?

Joe Bender of Cannabis Crop Solutions LLC talks us through maximising growth and yields of cannabis crop production.

Although often considered a weed, cannabis has many needs that growers must accommodate. Watering, fertilisation, light levels, carbon dioxide, and temperature, amongst many other factors, all have an impact on crop performance. When developing an overall plan for a garden, some growers might not consider that many individual factors, like each of those previously mentioned, could be the limiting factor in the performance of their cannabis crop production.

Pot convictions could help you get a job when weed is legalized in Illinois

Having a pot-related arrest or conviction used to be a liability for Illinoisans seeking employment. Now, a criminal record might lead to a job in the legal industry.

HempStaff, a Miami-based recruitment and training agency, launched a new division last month to help cannabis firms in Illinois and five other states hire employees that meet certain social equity requirements, including those with pot offenses on their records.

A news release from HempStaff said the company hopes to help those folks “find their dream opportunities.” But there’s also benefits for employers.

For many U.S. farmers who planted hemp, CBD boom leaves bitter taste

Dan Maclure planted eight acres of hemp on his Vermont farm for the first time this year, aiming to cash in on the exploding demand for CBD, a derivative of the plant reputed to ease anxiety and other ills without the high of its close cousin, marijuana.

He persevered when some of his hemp plants grew white with mildew and others failed lab tests and had to be destroyed. With his harvest now complete, Maclure has one more challenge to overcome: selling his surviving crop and recouping an estimated $140,000 investment.
